Earlier today, An Ohio ballot measure officially withdrew their efforts to qualify for the November ballot. This decision from Ohioans for Secure and Fair Elections comes one day after the group asked U.S Supreme court to weigh in on whether they have a legal right to relaxed signature-gathering rules during a pandemic.
“Because of the timing of the appeal, we will not be able to get on the ballot in 2020, but it will not prevent our work to ensure voting is secure and fair for all Ohioans,” said campaign manager Toni Webb.
The group was joined in their legal battles by ballot campaigns for marijuana legalization and raising the state’s minimum wage. As of yet, neither of the other two groups have withdrawn.
This protracted legal battle started nearly two months ago when the groups were denied electronic signatures, an extended deadline and lowered signature count by the State and that denial was overturned by U.S District Court.
